Itinerary

Day 1 :
PICK UP

We will depart from the meeting point at Tribuna de los Shyris at 6:45 am. Our guide will provide general information about the city. We will then take the Calacalí Los Bancos road and pass by the first point of interest, which is the Middle of the World.

In just a few minutes, we will arrive at the first hummingbird site, 'Reserva Maraksacha'. It is located 40 minutes away from Quito and aims to preserve the avifauna of the high Andean forest ecosystems. Here, we can admire stunning hummingbirds and other colourful bird species

Continuing along the Calacalí-Los Bancos road, we will reach the Orchid Reserve 'Pahuma' at Kilometer 42. This 375-hectare (925-acre) cloud forest is home to over 200 species of orchids, spectacled bears, silver-billed toucans, and a diverse group of montane forest species. We will have breakfast surrounded by the forest and then walk along a trail for about 10 minutes to admire a variety of orchids and dive into the waterfall. The area is home to silver-billed mountain toucans and a diverse group of montane forest species. The water will energize us.

After bathing in the invigorating waterfall, we will visit the Guaycapi restaurant on the Calacalí Los Bancos road at km 52. There, we will enjoy a delicious lunch while admiring the view of the cloud forest and the hummingbird species that frequent the watering hole

Following a delicious lunch, we crossed the road and entered the Alambi Reserve. This family project aims to conserve the cloud forest in the famous Tandayapa valley. The reserve is located in the Andean Choco ecosystem, between 1450 and 2200 meters above sea level, and covers an area of over 120 hectares, of which more than 90% is primary forest. The site plays a crucial role in protecting highly important species, including some that are endemic. With over 120 hectares of land, of which more than 90% is primary forest, it is essential for the conservation of these species. During our visit, we will walk along the Alambi river path and observe the coffee drying process.
