Overview

Prior to the arrival of the Incas, the Yumbo population numbered around 12,000 – a significant figure for the era. However, their numbers would soon decline rapidly following the arrival of the Incas and later the Spaniards. The Yumbos were decimated by the hundreds and thousands after being exposed to European diseases, to which they had no defence, and a series of eruptions from the neighbouring volcanoes Pululahua and Guagua Pichincha, which covered the region with ash. It is believed that the remaining few decided to abandon the region and move to towns and lands where they could still prosper. For example, present-day Santo Domingo de los Colorados is believed to have been an important Yumbo centre.

Itinerary

Day 1 :
PICK UP

In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in Quito by a guide who will provide general information about the city. You will then take the Calacalí Los Bancos road. The first point of interest you will pass is the Equator.

At an altitude of 1600 metres above sea level, we will have breakfast while enjoying a spectacular view of the bird and hummingbird feeders nearby.
Our journey continues through the parishes of Nanegalito and Pacto, leading us towards the Mashpi-Amagusa Reserve.

The Mashpi-Pachijal Important Bird Area (IBA) contains 130 hectares of privately owned recovering forest. This forest is located in the last piedmont-forest that connects directly to the lower western subtropical forest of Ecuador, making it a unique and attractive location for birdwatchers seeking the
most biodiverse regions with endemic birds of the Chocó

Piripe Wellness Lodge integrates the elements of nature to create life experiences that promote physical, mental, and spiritual balance for Their guests.

The symbolism of Yumbo continues to thrive in the Tulipe area. The geometric shapes of the pools and the ancient engravings on stones, known as petroglyphs, can be found under waterfalls, on muddy riverbanks, and jungle paths. These convey a unique energy that is difficult to describe. Tulipe combines the concepts of sacred nature with the balance of the cosmos, as understood by pre-Columbian societies. The museum's exceptional research and curatorial work have earned it international recognition, including the 2011 Reina Sofia Award.

We will visit Nanegalito at the end of the day. It is a charming town where we will have the opportunity to taste local fruits such as zalac and other delicacies.
